Bucher Industries expands winter maintenance business
Bucher Industries is strengthening its municipal vehicle and winter maintenance equipment business by acquiring W. Gmeiner GmbH based in Kümmersbruck / Amberg, Germany. Gmeiner manufactures high quality salt and grit spreading equipment and generated EUR 9 million in sales in 2006. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Gmeiner is a strongly growing, well managed company that generated EUR 8.7 million in sales in 2006 with some 40 employees. Its high quality spreaders feature a special dual auger conveyor system with an especially flat design and a low vehicle centre of gravity for optimum road handling. The company holds a strong position in the German and North European markets. The spreaders are distributed through Unimog and other vehicle dealers in Germany and exported through a network of independent dealers.

The acquisition will turn Bucher Municipal into Europe's second largest supplier of winter maintenance spreading machines and strengthen its market position, especially in German-speaking countries. The Gmeiner spreaders ideally complement Bucher Municipal's current range of Giletta spreaders in terms of both products and markets. The two manufacturing facilities run by Giletta in Revello, Italy, and by Gmeiner in Kümmersbruck / Amberg, Germany, will continue to operate as in the past.

In 2007, Bucher Industries is celebrating its 200th anniversary commemorating its successful evolution from a blacksmith's shop to a global technology group with leading market positions in speciality areas of mechanical and vehicle engineering. The company's operations currently include specialized agricultural machinery, municipal vehicles, wine and fruit juice production equipment, hydraulic components, and production equipment for the glass container industry. Bucher Industries' shares are traded on SWX Swiss Exchange (SWX: BUCN).
